Description of Practice

Joan is an experienced mediator of over 25 years. "Mediation is more than a career, it is a vocation". After practicing law in a traditional way for years, she converted her law practice into a mediation practice to better serve the families she works with at an affordable cost. Joan focuses on child related issues first because it is the most important aspect of divorce and it sets the right tone. She believes people can resolve their disputes amicably and inexpensively. Joan is an Accredited Member of the NJ Association of Professional Mediators and often serves as a court appointed mediator in family law matters. She is a guest lecturer at Rutgers University Law School and a frequent seminar presenter for her peers.

Experience

Full time Accredited Mediator with 25 years experience; 35 years licensed Attorney at Law; Guest Lecturer Rutgers Law School in Newark; Seminar Presenter for NJ Association of Professional Mediators, NJ Institute for Continuing Legal Education, Somerset County Bar Association and other organizations; Mentor, NJ Association of Professional Mediators.

Degrees

Bachelor of Arts, Rutgers College, Rutgers University 1980; Juris Doctorate, Seton Hall School of Law, 1983; Institute for Dispute Resolution of Seton Hall School of Law, Intensive Training Seminar and Internship, 1992

Approach

Mediation is the preferred way to resolve disputes. Joan practices mediation full time - it is more than just part of a law practice. Joan considers the children in the family to be "silent participants" in the process and encourages parents to place the needs of the children first. Mediation saves time, money and energy that are better used for the participants and their children. "Mediation is my vocation".

Fees

$420 per hour. Most couples complete the mediation process in 2 to 4 sessions. Each session takes approximately 2 hours. Joan drafts the "Agreement Reached in Mediation", which most participants sign and submit to the court as their "Marital Settlement Agreement", so they avoid additional fees to have this drafted by a separate attorney.
