Description of Practice

Karen Phillips is a TN Supreme Court "Rule 31" listed, Family & General Civil Mediator. She has the Domestic Violence specification. With more than 35 years experience working with families, she brings a fresh prospective to working with disputing parties. With a background in Social Work and Conflict Resolution, Karen easily develops a rapport with parties and works to get to the heart of the issues in dispute. Karen has successfully mediated hundreds of family matters including Divorce, Post Divorce issues and Child Custody / Visitation/ Parenting Time. Additionally, Karen has mediated Landlord - Tennant, Business and Employment disputes.

Professional Background

Prior to becoming a full-time Mediator, Karen was a School Social Worker for a local school system. She worked in that capacity for almost 18 years. Additionally, she recruited for a college graduate degree program, worked for a state child service agency and with a Juvenile Court. Altogether, Karen has over 35 years of experience working and serving children and families.

Experience

Karen has studied and taught Conflict Resolution for move than 25 years. She has taught children as young as 5 and adults (parents, employees, teachers, administrators, & Law Enforcement) conflict resolution skills & mediation. She has 7 years of experience in Professional Mediation. With a Masters Degree in Conflict Resolution, Karen is skilled in understanding conflict, sources of conflict, and methods to intervention.

Approach

Karen takes a facilitative approach in Mediation and often utilizes the Transformative Mediation model. Karen believes in the importance of Self-determination but also respects the need to restore a relationship between the parties in conflict.

Fees

Fees determined utilizing a sliding fee scale fee which is based on each party's annual income. Each party's fees are determined separately.
