Description of Practice

I believe that the conversations that most need to happen are also the most challenging to navigate. I help clients get to the heart of issues with efficiency and safety. When people can talk about what matters most, there’s nothing they can’t accomplish. While conflict is the most basic of human experiences, it is also one that many feel poorly prepared to manage well. Learning Through Difference, LLC provides structures and skills that help clients be hard on problems but be easy on people. I will help your team transform the stress, frustration, and uncertainty that comes with conflict into learning and growth. Read on about our services or contact us to explore your unique needs.

Professional Background

I have been mediating and facilitating full time since 2015. Prior to starting my work in mediation, facilitation, and organizational development I worked in K-12 education for 10+ years. Good teaching and school leadership has MUCH in common with good facilitation and mediation and I am happy to bring these skills into my work. In addition to my experience in education, I worked for 9 seasons as a whitewater rafting guide. These experiences help me understand a wide variety of clients and their needs.

I have worked with various city governments, school districts, nonprofits, and small businesses. These experiences include mediating workplace disputes, contract negotiations, and organizational development. While my full-time formal mediation practice began in 2015, I mediated and facilitated for years prior to that as an educator and educational leader.

Master of Science (MS) in Conflict and Dispute Resolution, University of Oregon School of Law 2015, Master of Arts (MA) in Curriculum and Instruction, Colorado Christian University 2007, Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Sociology and Spanish, Minor in Leadership Studies, University of Denver 2003

Once we begin working together, I am a facilitative mediator meaning that I will guide the process but the participants keep full control of their outcomes and next steps.
