Description of Practice

My focus is on helping individuals and couples through divorce. I am an experienced mediator and collaborative divorce attorney, but also provide traditional court-based representation for those that are unable to take advantage of the mediation process, perhaps because their spouse will not consider mediation. I believe that for most families, mediation is a better choice. At my firm, we provide the option of hourly billing or flat fees for divorce mediation. Many couples select one of our fixed fee options, which are designed to provide an effective framework for a couple's successful resolution of the issues before them. I enjoy writing and blogging at my firm's website, www.NextPhaseLegal.com. I am also available to mediate other disputes, such as estate and probate matters. I I am also an experienced Collaborative Lawyer. Our firm is also experienced with business and commercial dispute resolution, including mediation and arbitration, or litigation when necessary.

Professional Background

After serving as a police officer for 13 years, I became an attorney and a mediator. I have concentrated divorce and family law for my entire legal career. I am admitted to practice in Massachusetts and North Carolina, but am inactive in NC. I frequently attend advanced trainings in my practice areas, and enjoy being a business owner as well.

Experience

Shortly after becoming an attorney, I attended my mediation certification training. More than half of my divorce and family law practice is mediation, with the remainder a mix of collaborative and court-based cases. I have since achieved certification through the Massachusetts Council on Family Mediation, requiring extensive additional training and experience. I developed comprehensive fixed-fee mediation plans, that have proven very successful over the past years with clients. I am also a collaborative lawyer, although my personal thoughts are that mediation is a better option in most instances.

Degrees

- BS from Westfield State College, Westfield, MA. - Juris Doctor, Suffolk University Law School, Boston, MA

Approach

When mediating, I belive that fairness is paramount, and that people need to have the right information in order to make good decisions. Because I work with many upper-income clients, I am thorough when helping clients with financial issues, and collect financial data so that both parties have the same information. I've mediated a number of tricky parenting issues, and help families develop parenting plans that help keep things on track.

Fees

My hourly rate is $350.00 per hour. Flat fees are also available for mediation and collaborative cases. Discounted rates may be available in limited situations. Major credit cards are accepted.
