This Mediator is Certified
I help those in conflict - especially families - resolve their problems in a prompt, economical and peaceful way so they can devote their energies to the rest of their lives. I work with clients who wish to develop their own family-centered solutions by working together peacefully and respectfully.

If we want peace in our world, we must first make peace in our country, communities and families. I view my conflict-resolution work as peace-making.

Professional Background

My 30+ year legal career has been devoted to helping resolve conflict, especially in family matters and labor-employment issues. For the last decade, I have focused on providing mediation and Collaborative family law services to clients interested in faster, better, less expensive and more peaceful ways to resolve differences -- especially those involving family members or other ongoing relationships. When people are in conflict, they have less energy and fewer resources available to themselves and others. We may be preoccupied or even debilitated, depriving our families, workplaces and communities of our full range of talents. I work with and guide individuals and families as they work to resolve their conflicts, so they can get on with the rest of their lives.

Experience

Member of the Oregon Mediation Association with hundreds of hours of training and practice in mediation. Successfully mediated approximately 400 cases.

Former mediator and instructor for Clackamas Co. Family Court Services (offering approved class on family law and procedures to supplement the Court's mandatory education program).

Member of International Academy of Collaborative Practitioners (IACP) and Board member of Oregon Assn. of Collaborative Professionals (OACP). Founding member of Bridges Collaborative Divorce Solutions. Approximately 200 hours of training and 50 cases handled in Collaborative Divorce protocols.

Approach

I take a facilitative approach to both mediation and Collaborative Practice and hold these values:

1. Parents are the best equipped to determine what their children need.

2. The parties involved are entitled to self-determination in resolving their own disputes.

3. Parties to conflict need and deserve effective assistance to be able to safely and productively communicate about their differences.

4. Agreements that parties reach voluntarily are more powerful, durable & effective than those imposed on them. They may even be life-changing.

5. A skillful peacemaker can provide crucial assistance as parties work to resolve and even transform their conflicts, allowing continued and often improved relationships going forward.

6. Family issues are too important to be decided solely by the law. Families deserve solutions that are tailored to their own unique needs and which involve more compassion and wisdom than the legal system is designed to provide.

Fees

Free Initial Consultation.

$250 per hour for mediation or Collaborative Family Law advice and services. If I am a good fit to work with a family which cannot financially afford my normal hourly rate, we can discuss alternative arrangements. Most mediation couples can expect to complete their divorce with me for $3000 or less (including my preparation of their legal papers).
